The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa was honored with three Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) awards. Laticia Transom earned MPSF Women¡¯s Swimmer of the Year honors while Holly Nelson was named the conference freshman of the year and head coach Michael Stephens earned women¡¯s swimming coach of the year recognition.
Transom turned in a historic season¡ªshe set three individual school records and was part of three more relay program records. She took home a trio of MPSF individual titles and was also a part of three conference championship relay squads. The senior transfer capped off her season with a trip to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships where she earned All-America status in the 100 free by finishing in seventh place.
Nelson made an instant impact in her first season as a Rainbow Wahine, helping UH to three freestyle relay conference titles and entering the program top 10 in both the 50 and 100 free. She swam the opening leg of the 200 and 400 free to help the Rainbow Wahine to NCAA appearances in both events. Nelson was also the MPSF runner-up to Transom in both the 50 and 100 free while placing seventh in the 100 fly.
In his first year leading the program, Stephens led the Rainbow Wahine to a number of record-setting performances and a dominant showing at the MPSF Championships. The UH women gained their sixth conference title in the last seven years by finishing nearly 170 points ahead of the second-place team. They won nine of the 18 swimming events and had a top-three finish in 13 of the 18.
